Sometimes what we call gossip is hurtful…so I use the term humorously because I know some things that have happened around here the last couple of months that I wouldn’t put down on this forum. Having said that, we were sitting on the porch last Saturday morning and it was absolutely gorgeous out when all these sirens started going down Aska Rd. There were police and fire and rescue vehicles. Tim turned the scanner on right away (as opposed to waiting until things are settled down which he usually does) and we heard the dispatcher calling ‘lifeflight” schedules from all over north Georgia. Evidently, a rather large woman had fallen at the top of Stanley Creek falls and was unconscious! Now, they did give her appoximate weight and it makes me wonder how she got up there to begin with! Those falls are way back in the Rich Mountain wilderness area and not a lot of people even know they are there. We never did hear what happened and I hope she is okay.

Can you tell its almost here? In the last couple of days, the air has cooled off dramantically!
Now, y’all know that Tim should be the one writing this, but…HOW ‘BOUT THEM DAWGS? Have we got a team this year or what?
I noticed that our porch has turned a little quirky. We have never gone out of our way to collect Georgia-related memorabilia, but we have Dawg stuff and Coca-cola stuff that is very unique…not too mention other signs, etc. that are very local in motif. We have a very old (well, 30 years or so) wooden sign that used to hang at Noontootla Creek over our porch doors…The porch continues to evolve……
I know that I haven’t been really really good about updating this lately. It has been so hot. I have turned into a real Southern belle….I feel like getting one of those big palm frond fans and lounging on the sleeping porch.
This has been a really strange summer. The visitors, both mine and others’, have seem to come and go in spurts. The weather has done the same thing. Real estate has picked up a little bit I think but not enough to get real excited about.
Every afternoon we have been getting those blow-up storms…and the Daisy the lab is getting worse and worse. She has started chewing and clawing at the door frame to the basement and, sometimes, the front door. I picked up some homeopathic calming medicine for dogs at Petsmart yesterday…we’ll see. I think we are going to need a doggie strait-jacket though.
That’s the word on the street I don’t know if that is the right take on it though. It does seem quiet on the roads so far this summer but I think there are too many cabins in the rental market and there is no corresponding increase in short term renters.
Yep, we finally got some rain. Saturday it clouded up and rained in sporadic fashion. It poured north of Blue Ridge and as far as Deep Gap. Not a drop at our house below Deep Gap. It did rain Sunday at our house but we weren’t there. We were out moving horses from pasture to pasture.
