First cabin caretaking customers and a horse

Well I hope this is the sign of things to come. We have our first annual cabin watch package purchase and we have our first (well, almost) first cabin project coming up…I won’t go into detail and bore you any more than I already have done.  Bring it on!!

We’re going to look at property to lease to put a horse tomorrow afternoon…then, I will be looking for a horse to put on it…No, we are not putting the cart before the horse (I just had to say it) There is a piece of an old farm that is up for lease. It has an old barn, a spring fed pond and a fence in need of a little repair..

What subject should we post on next? Any suggestions? I have a little post almost ready on Cabin Kitchen Counters…or do we post a story about the old time way of mourning the deceased (You know, like sitting up with the casket in the parlor all night kind of stuff and hoping the baling wire doesn’t break)….

Cabin caretaking website

I hate to belabor this point but since our new Blue Ridge Cabin Care website isn’t up yet, we are still referring people to this one. I will post some new Cabin Style posts as well as a link to the new website soon. Hopefully, it will be somewhat viable by next week. If you are trying to contact us for the business, please post here or call 706-633-3481. Sorry if this bores some of you! Thanks for hanging in there!

Best food and best cabin care!

Check out our Food page for my picks of some of my favorite places to eat here. PLEASE give me suggestions or comments and I will add more entries. Also, check out the previous post about our new cabin caretaking business. Thanks!(Hat tip to BLGW)

New cabin caretaking business for Blue Ridge

Tim is starting a new side business, under the auspices of his current one….This will be a Cabin Caretaking venture. We plan to offer services to non-resident owners, especially if they are not in a cabin rental program. The types of services available would include:

1. Checking up on cabin condition - watching for vandalism, storm damage, etc.
2. We’ll even plant their window boxes!
3. Making it look like someone cares - sweeping the front entry and picking up light debris
4.Checking water filled appliances and plumbing for leaks…nothing surprises you like burst water pipes when you get to your cabin on Christmas eve.
5. Anwering the phone for alarm calls…after all what can the owner do from Florida

These are just an example. You know it used to be easy to find someone you trusted to watch things while you were out of town…nowadays you can’t even seem to trust the Scout leader. I hope that we can build relationships with people that they are comfortable with. Our services will include contractor referrals, meeting deliveries, even grocery shopping! We found out that virtually  no one here is doing this. It seems like every other second home destination town has a little company for this purpose..Our website will be up soon….. We printed brochures..and will be signing owners up! Our business phone is 706-633-3481..if you would like more information.

Update: We have had some interest already and we haven’t done any advertising except for flyers, etc….and the website isn’t up yet….

Gravel roads and personalities

I am going to invent a new personality analysis tool using graveled Georgia mountain roads as a measuring tool. Think about it for a minute -
Have you ever seen these people? The “Macho Man” in the big dually truck hogging the middle of the road…the “School Librarian”(sorry, Anne) who creeps and crawls because there isn’t a posted speed limit. Or how about this one..”The Rebel”…you know the type - this one spins the wheels of their vehicle going up the single lane hill and digs big ruts everyone else has to navigate around…I’m sure I will think of some more…give me a minute while I watch out the window.

Georgia weather

I have spring fever…bad. The last few days we’ve had highs around 70, blue skies..the whole bit. That’s the crazy thing about spring in the Georgia mountains. It teases you mercilessly and, on top of that,  it’s late this year. Looking out the cabin window, you can tell there is a while to go. The air smells differently, though and I saw a robin the other day. Daffodils are blooming, but the dogwoods in the mountains aren’t awake yet.

The calendar says there are  a few more good fires left in the fireplace this year.
